Dual booted Windows 7 and Mac OSX on Dell 1420

What you need

  • Dell Inspiron 1420
  • iAtkos S3 V2 + Combo Update 10.6.6
  • Windows 7 disc
  • Blank Disc
  • Lots of patience and time.

Step by Step Guide

  1. ALWAYS Backup your data.
  2. You are going to be reformatting your whole computer, so all data will be erased.

  3. Partition the Hard Drive
  4. Petition the hard drive with either Partition Magic or the Windows 7 CD. You need at least 40 GB for Mac OSX.

  5. Install Mac OS X
  6. Burn the iAtkos S3 disc and put it in your computer. Turn it on and boot the CD (F12 on startup). Follow the instructions of the installer.
    Format the hard drive where you want to install OSX by going to Utilities -> Disk Utility, then click on the drive, select 1 Partition, Mac OS X Journaled.
    When you get to the checklist page, MAKE SURE YOU UNCHECK RTC

    Uncheck RCT

  7. Install Windows 7
  8. Self explanatory. When you are done, it’ll boot straight into Windows 7.

  9. Set up dual boot
  10. Last step, start by downloading EasyBCD 1.7.2. It is listed under OLDER VERSIONS. It has to be 1.7.2

  11. Install and run EasyBCD on your computer through Windows 7.
    • From the main screen select the Add/Remove Entries option on the left side.
    • Select Generic X86 PC from the drop down menu.

    You are done and can reboot your Dell and see the boot menu!
